New Survey Translation Solutions Bethlehem, PA - February 20, 2007 - PeriscopeIQ™, a provider of an advanced web-based survey technology platform, today announced its new Survey Translation Mapping (STM) and complementary Survey Response Mapping (SRM) solutions. Its STM technology provides in-place multiple language translation of survey questionnaires while its SRM tool translates the responses of open-ended questions, easing the creation and analysis processes of multi-language surveys. “Translations are often a daunting task and routinely suffer from many sources of error,” explained Dr. Pawan Singh, co-founder of PeriscopeIQ. “When a survey is fielded in multiple languages, it is important that all translated questionnaires have the same content and context as the original instrument. Our new STM solution provides direct, parallel and in-place translation in 10 different languages, reducing the time and expense spent on survey translations. The accurate analysis of survey responses is another critical component and our SRM technology addresses language barrier issues in analyzing respondents’ answers.” The PeriscopeIQ STM solution allows in-place translation without intermediate structures and in a process directly parallel to the content of the base questionnaire. Each question, instruction, sub-question and response option has its own text box for translation. The translated questionnaire is automatically built, question-by-question, as the translation is entered with an Auto-Sense feature to automatically detect rich formatting needs. When the translation is complete, the new questionnaire can be viewed with one click. The solution also provides a workflow management functionality to enable translators and reviewers to easily collaborate and review work. PeriscopeIQ’s SRM solution has the key attributes of STM, in addition to other features that are specifically applicable to response translations. Like STM, SRM offers direct, parallel and in-place translation with rich-formatting. Both SRM and STM offer visual cues of responses or questions that have been translated by changing the background color of the translated boxes. SRM also offers a one-click update where the survey results are automatically updated with translated data. Further, the original text remains available for translation editors to review the translator’s work as well as to restore original text later, if needed. “There are few technologies on the market that make the translation process easier,” said Karen Leyton, chief operating officer of Technical Language Services, a translation services firm with more than 500 translators located around the world. “By offering the formatting capabilities during the translation process, PeriscopeIQ’s technology can eliminate a complete step, lowering the cost and reducing the time involved. And, the workflow management feature has the ability to enable a better end product to be created with fewer steps and less chance of error.”
